Voters in the Greene County Community School District will be asked Sept. 8 to approve a bond issue for $20 million for new construction and renovations to bring the entire district to only two attendance centers – one for grades pre-K through 4, and the other for grades 5-12.
Superintendent Tim Christensen on Thursday shared diagrams showing the configuration of both buildings, including where new construction would be. To see the elementary building, click here: Greene Co ele. To see the 5-12 complex, click here: Greene Co 5-12.
The board lists five primary reasons for the project:
- Operate as efficiently as possible in order to make the best use of tax dollars
- Provide students the best educational opportunities possible
- Provide safe, secure buildings
- Locate schools where there is easy access to emergency medical care
- Compete favorably for student enrollment with new/updated facilities
Those reasons are at the top of a list of frequently asked questions, with answers, also shared by Tim Christensen*. The FAQ includes information about the scope of the project, funding and tax rates, the geothermal system proposed for the 5-12 complex, the future of other district-owned buildings, and much more.
